Many of my clients enter counseling with an Adjustment Disorder. This is a maladaptive reaction to one or more identifiable psychosocial stressors. For example, a divorce, problems at work, problems with a child, a move, etc. Most clients come to see me because they are experiencing a marked impairment in social, occupational, or academic functioning do to this specific stressor. This impairment at work, home, or school may take the form of depressive symptoms, anxiety, inappropriately acting out, or a combination. Typically, a combination of behavioral and cognitive techniques can ameliorate the presenting problem in around 8 counseling sessions. Sometimes through counseling an underlying issue may require additional sessions to address and resolve.
